CAST 9. Demonstrate a normal roll cast to 40 feet with the leader completely straightening. Rod hand only.

Considerations may be given if the cast is not performed on the water but in all cases
PROPER FORM must be demonstrated. The cast must produce a narrow loop delivery no higher than the examiners head. A good way to practice this cast on a field is to use a leader know as a 'Grass Catcher." Simply tie in 3 consecutive blood knots 1 inch apart near the end of your practice leader and leave room for the fly to be attached. This allows the leader to "catch" on the grass and provides "tension" to the line much like water does. Another field trick is to tie your leader to a stick or your car keys as a way of "anchoring" the line.
