CAST 7. PILE CAST. 35 to 40 feet.

A great cast for putting some slack into the fly line and leader. After a high trajectory forward cast is made and the loop unrolls the rod tip is gently lowered, (not pulled), to the ground. This will place a nice pile of slack in the line. In his book "Presentation" Gary Borger points out that the best way to execute the pile cast is by starting with an elliptical backcast. This will better allow the caster to vary the upward angle of the forward cast in the most efficient manner possible. A good pile cast trajectory could be from 8:00 o'clock on the back cast to about 2:00 o'clock on the forward cast. An 8 to 2 casting plane.
